Description
The Big Lounge
This lounge was built by Peadar Lynch in the early seventies as a large extension to the original pub which dates back to at least 1739ad.The Big lounge as it became known has been revamped on more than one occasion. The latest reincarnation designed by Atlantic architechs in 2002.It is now a modern spacious lounge an ideal location to met friends for a drink or something to eat,or meet after seeing a play at Tallaght theatre.

There is live music every Wednesday and on special nights eg, Paddys day.and if your looking for atmosphere you wont find a better venue for watching live sport, with 3 large screens and our exclusive live games which are updated regulary here on the website.

Beside the lounge there is a beer garden where we have erected a heated section with televisions in case you miss something when out having your cigarette. The lounge is on one level so is very accessable for wheelchair users.

Our trained staff will make you feel very welcome and if you have any queries or a problem please ask to speak to one of our duty managers. Looking forward to your next visit.

History

Est in 1738, this old pub situated on part of the monastic site of St. Kevin’s Monastery in Kilnamanagh has been serving food and drink to travellers for over 250 years.
Once famed as a high class inn and coachhouse on the old Turnpike Road this house has in its time been owned by a Goldsmith, the pawnbroker, a Solicitor, a wandering Yank and a minister of the Protestant Church, Rev. George Bradley, who inherited it in the Fenian era of 1864. But the Rev. George didn’t stay too long, realizing that there were easier and less complicated ways of acquiring money - such as passing the basket around during Sunday service.
By 1912 this house had acquired a ballroom license which attracted all the eligible and not so eligible ladies and gents for miles around. However a rumor still abounds that certain members of the ecclesiastical profession were not too happy about this departure on the grounds that many matrimonial ceremonies were taking place in a rather hurried and unorthodox manner. In this ere Kilnamanagh was the heartland of culchie Dublin – green fields, trees and blossoming Agricultural and Dairy produce. There was no mention of the Tallaght Bypass. The many trees surrounding the premises were inhabited each summer by flocks of nesting cuckoos, and from this appears the most likely explanation of the title Cuckoos Nest.
Food
Carvery lunches are served daily Monday to Friday under the watchful eye of our head chef Eimear. We also have a Bar menu served Wednesday to Sunday and at the moment is being extended and improved.
