Zanzibar on Ormond Quay is a superpub in every sense of the word.
As it's name implies, it is very exotically designed done up with palm trees and
masks given it it's Indian Ocean appeal. Once you get by the bouncers, you enter
on the ground floor and will appreciate the sheer size of the place. The bar is long
and usually packed. Service is quite swift, however pints are quite expensive. There
is plenty of standing room in this pub with it's two floors. This is a good pub to
spend the whole night in as it has something for everybody - good looking women (and
men I suppose) and good drink, the only drawback being that you may need to take out
a small bank loan to stay the whole night and sometimes it can be devoid of any atmosphere.
On the whole though, if you go with a group and expect to have a laugh and a dance, you
won't be disappointed. This pub is wheelchair accessible.
Loved it! The decor was so unusual, and although there was a huge crowd we weren't waiting too long to be served. The only problem I have with it is that on the night I was there, they wouldn't open the second floor and so it was very hard to move, thus causing many broken glasses and spillages.
Best nite out in ages! Beats barcode any day! the music is deadly and the cocktails are gorgeous! If you havent been, go!
Zanzibar is great espeially if your into house music because if you check out the dj in this placce i have to say he place the best house then later on he brings it on to funky house which is great because the pace is electric with hot women more for the 20 year old group and a bit later but its still all god cocktail monday to friday are 5 euro monday me thinks
Taste of the Casbar here! Palm trees, etc. Good big bar along one side and plenty of room for mingling especially on Friday and Saturday nights.
After a few days in dublin we stumbled across Zanzibar and we loved it! cant believe ppl gave this place a bar review! we luckily arrive minutes before they started chargin the entertance fee and managed to get a good large table, large venue with a good crowd of mixed people, drinks we're ok priced 5euro's for wine, no cues, quick service at the bar but since the music was quite good the dancefloor was busy,.
Come on people the zanzibar is class.. go there every saturday night and i love it the music is great and so are the people but some are a bit passed it to be in there, last week i saw a woman and a man about 60-70 up dancing in there. me and my mates go there to party the r&b music is class. Overall its a class place.
I got to this pub early and got in and got a seat before the place started to fill up. Cocktails are around €7 and beers are around €4.20. The decor is awesome. Really friendly atmosphere. No lines for the bathrooms. Good music, for the most part, played a mix of dance, rap, hip hop, and oldies. I had a really good time.
Zanzibar is a great place, although it was better a few years ago. The music is great, although at about 12 you are lucky to get near the dance floor. Everyone is in a good mood. Ladies beware of the bouncers at the end of the nite, they have a habbit of chatting up the women and .....we wont say anymore, but they are not worth it, so dont entertain them.
we luved the zanzibar and the zanzibar luved us - we had a ball in there and a day didnt go by on our 5 day visit that we didnt end up in there. Defo be back soon :)
Packed on weekends. Get there before 8pm or you may have to queue outside, but you should get in to this oasis of cool soon enough. An experience. One hell of a hot spot. Buzz, babes and beer. Zanzibar has the lot. Don't miss it. Beware though, the bouncers on the door like to show who's the boss.
What a dump. Music is awful, the beer is c**p, decor sucks. I can't believe anyone gave this dump a good review!
I can't believe anyone would give this place a good review. Went around 11.30 on a Saturday night and it was only fairly busy but we only lasted 15 mins before realising how dire it was. On a side note, having no cigarette smoke in the air means you can REALLY smell those who don't feel personal hygiene is important (although that isn't really the fault of the bar!). Much, much better places to spend your time and money!
This place opened with a bang a couple of years ago and had a good reputation as a good place for dancing into the wee hours. Unfortunately on a recent visit I found the place a little overrun with hen parties and the dodgy shirt brigade. The bars on all floors were busy and service was poor. Beware: There is now an entrance fee at the door at weekends. Go to a proper nightclub or stay in a pub.
