The Old Stand is situated on the corner of Exchequer Street and Andrew Street. It has a very relaxing atmosphere and is ideal for a couple of pints and a chat. The bar staff are very friendly and the service is swift. The pints taste great especially after a long day in the office. Seating can be scarce as it is quite small and it can get packed, mainly full of thirty somethings out for a couple of pints. If you're on your own or with a mate, the best option is
to grab a seat at the bar to have a chat or read the paper and enjoy the conversational atmosphere.
A good honest boozer, small-ish on the inside but great for lunch. Does lovely food in the afternoons and doesn't do a half-bad pint either. It's family run and it shows in the no-nonsense way the place is operated. V.competent bar staff, good prices, especially given the location and worth a look if even just for a quick pint.
This pub has two bars with steps between the two. Not much to choose between them. Does good food especially the Dublin coddle. Can be a bit touristy but worth the effort. Note don’t take any tips on horses from the barmen….?
Fairly quiet pub. Small groups or couples dominate. Serves very much as a stepping stone pub. One drink and your gone, though that doesn't mean it's bad. A nice place for a date or a pre/post dinner drink.
the Old Stand in Exchequer Street has a great, warm and friendly atmosphere, the barman, a 60+ gentleman, is very polite, the customers very friendly, and the pub food very good - I rate it 9 out of 10!" (October 2002)
