Casual
The Old Orchard is a top-class establishment situated in Rathfarnham. The lounge area
in The Old Orchard is a grand spot to have a few pints in with friends. The bar is
situated in the centre of the pub with 180 degree service all around. The service by
the barstaff is excellent, indeed while waiting for my Guinness to settle I was asked
if I was being served no less than five times. The pint itself was perfect if a little
pricey but you can see where the extra money is being spent.
Another feature of the pub is it's fine veranda / beer
garden where even on a cold-ish September night was adaquately heated and well laid out
place to enjoy a few pints into the night. We actually felt we were on holiday abroad
and were only moved indoors at 11.30 when the veranda closed. We have
to mention that nearby are two fine restaurants an Italian and a Chinese and if you
find yourself going to or in either, The Old Orchard is an excellent meeting point or
a good place for a couple of pints after the meal.
Once a great spot for a quite mid week pint or a rousing session at the weekends, this sweet spot has turned sour.If ever a pub had taken authority to far the Old Orchard takes the biscuit in a rather unfriendly manner.I was dissappointed to here tales of friends with children not allowed to enter the family pub with prams and a regular with a quite well behaved dog being told to get off the premises after many a euro spent...Local Family pub where have you gone?
This is a very nice pub, good seating and layout, great heated beer garden with bar facing onto it, you will not find a better one.
