1. Ocean is particularly popular from about April till October when the availability of outdoor seating and nice sunsets over the canal attract lots of trendy types - further encouraged by occasional impromtu visits from U2 and posse.
Drink is distressingly dear... although in fairness, am sure they're paying premium rental for the location so I probably shouldn't be so judgemental on what they have to charge to keep in business.
Food isn't cheap either (then, how many other bar menus do you know that include veal parmesan?), but is not overpriced for what you get, and I would recommend it.
While expensive, the pint (Guinness, I mean, THE pint) is decent: I'd give it an 8/10 during the day, but you'd want to watch them at night if/when it's busy and staff put speed of service over quality.
This is my closest pub and I am quite fond of it but usually go there only on quiet afternoons or during the Winter months because find it difficult to cope with large crowds of people who are so busy with their own 'making an impression' agenda that they don't know how to get on with the enjoyable business of having a pint and treat their fellow drinkers with disdain. Maybe I just like pubs where the customers' priority is a pint and where everyone knows that the barman is the most powerful person there!
However, don't let that put you off: if you skive off work at 4 o'clock some rare sunny day, you probably couldn't find a nicer place to go for that not-in-Ireland feeling of drinking outdoors by water.
