I regularly visit Dublin for Soccer and Rugby Internationals.
My highlight is a Saturday night visit to the Lower Deck. A decent pint in the pleasant main bar and then downstairs for superb entertainment from our greatest balladeer since Luke Kelly, Patsy Watchorn.
Backed by excellent musicians including Brian (the Furrier) Furlong, a master of the Tin Whistle and the one-liner!
Guests I have seen join Patsy on stage recently include Peter St John (who wrote Rare Auld Times for him), Eoin Hand (former Ireland Soccer manager), and the cast of Lord of the Rings.
Patsy belts out a string of hits including Rare Auld Times, Flight of Earls, The Ferryman, John O'Dreams, Sean South, etc etc.
A fabulous night's entertainment, but take my advice and get there early. Music starts at 10 pm, but the bar opens downstairs around 9 pm. If you like ballads this is the place to be on a Saturday night.
