A relative newcomer to the Dublin Pub Scene (which ofcourse we wholeheartedly
welcome) The Lotts is situated at the corner of Liffery Streey and 'The Lotts'
in the centre of Dublin.
The Pub itself is split into two very different section - a stylish jazz style
Café Bar and a bar with a 'local' feel. On my first trip there, myself and a friend
went into the Cafe Bar section and is really is a fine place to go with a group of
friends. We went on a Tuesday evening and found the atmosphere great as we knocked
back a few afterwork pints and chatted the evening away. The serivce was top class,
drinks were brought to our table upon ordering at the bar, and the staff were truly
fantastic in their disposition and keeness.
On my second visit, myself and another friend dropped into the Bar on a Saturday night.
It wasn't full which is perhaps just as well as it is quite small. Match of the Day
was been shown on the telly and you could actually hear the commentary. After having had
a late night the night before this was a welcome quiet pint in the heart of Dublin city.
The bar service once again was excellent and the prices, well the prices are pretty
much what you'd expect of any pub in Dublin at present i.e. dear.
All said, if you're going with a group or a date, the Cafe Bar setting is the place to
be to chat in comfort (and the chance to hear Jazz/ Piano music live) and if it's
a quiet pint and a one-on-one chat you're after well then the cosy bar is the place for you.
In fact the only complaints we have about the bar is the long walk to the toilets and
the lack of ashtrays outside but sure one of these is easily sorted.
All said, a very welcome addition to the Dublin Pub Scene.
When i'm in town now I often frequent the Lotts, as each time I go there is something different happening. One day you will enter and there will be live music playing, the next there will be a nice crowd watching the game. Always with a good atmosphere.
There is a good selection of beers, all the usuals and a few of the unusual when you are fedup with the likes of stella. For the wine drinkers there were about 10 bottles of red / 10 white that can be bought by the glass or the bottle and for the more adventurous of us , there is a coktail menu.
One of my favourite parts of the Lotts is the restaurant quality food you can get. They have a Mediterranean style menu with something for everyone. My favourite being the spicy chicken wings and the salads ( to die for ).
The only bad things I can say is that the price of the drinks ( same as the rest of town )and getting a seat can be hard in the evenings and weekends. But these are minor points. Well worth a visit.
