The Long Stone is situated on Townsend Street and is a large and spacious pub. It can get packed at the weekend due to its popularity. The staff are friendly and courteous and the pints were reasonably priced and tasted fine. Go here if you want to have the craic and a good night out with your mates and also to check out the amazing fireplace which has to be seen to be believed.
I visited this pub as a result of having read about it on this site. What a let down it turned out to be. If this pub was established in 1754 it must have undergone several refurbishments in the meantime as its whole atmosphere was totally fake and anonymous. As for the fireplace of Balder the Viking God this was the biggest let down of all. I was expecting some sort of sculpture but it was just hollow platic a bit like the rest of the pub. On the plus side the place was clean and warm and I suppose a bottle of Bud or WKD tastes the same wherever you are and I could imagine it packed with young people having a great time in the evenings and weekends. If you want a decent pint of Guinness go somewhere with a reputation not here.
This is a popular pub with a mixed age group crowd. Gets packed at weekend though never too uncomfortable (unless of course some idiot customer parks himself/herself on a high barstool in a walkway). Definitely the most polite and friendly bar staff you will find in the city and soon to have a late licence I hear. Great background music just at the right volume level not to kill a conversation.
