The Castle Inn is located on Lord Edward Street opposite Christchurch
Cathredral in the city centre and would be ideal for a stop after a visit to said Cathedral.
We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon to be greeted by a warm, cosy atmosphere. The pub had
a good crowd in many of whom were tucking into food (we checked the menu and the choice was
superb - restaurant quality). More importantly however for us was the chance to get a beer.
The friendly bar girl took our order and soon we were sampling a terrific Guinness. A quick
look around about the place confirmed our belief that since our last visit it had been
renovated and we must say it was money well spent, as the area is a lot brighter than our
previous visit. The pub was excellent to enjoy a conversation in as there was 'subtle' background
music as opposed to the general loud music we find in certain pub these day. We also noticed
that there would be a live trad session that evening and upon asking were it was held, we were
shown a well laid out upstairs bar area. The pub also has a late license.
After a few relaxing pints and casual conversation we left agreeing that we would be back in
the coming weeks to sample the food (which the said patrons really enjoyed) as the welcome
was warm and friendly and the atmosphere was great.
Please note: This pub has now changed its name to The Bull and Castle, Gastropub and Beer Hall. Stocking different beers from around the world, it matches these beers with the different meals it has on its menu. Upstairs, The Bull and Castle houses Ireland's only Beer Hall with over 60 different bottled beers and 10 craft brews on draft. All draught beers are served in kleins(0.3litre), helbes(0.5litre) or steins (1 litre) like the Bierkellers of Germany. A special feature of The Beer Hall is the cold room they have on display at the back of the room where you can see your beer being chilled and kegs changed.
Only stopped here at lunchtime, but what a lunch. It was worth every penny delicious food and a great feel about the pub.
Headed to The Castle Inn one evening for something to eat and was surprised and delighted by the experience. The food was gorgeous-really tender steaks. The interior was well-lit and warm and the atmospere was great. The staff were very efficient and even smiled which is a hard thing to find in a pub these days.Went there for dinner and stayed for the music afterwards. Great night!
Fantastic food, fantastic beer. Boys behind bar a great craic!!! Went back for more and would certainly do the same again!
This pub has a great atmosphere its great if your not going to a night club it has all the right music. The staff are great and the drink is great. Its great all round. It is a late bar. The DJ usually plays till two. I would recommend it to a young lively crowd who are looking for a good night.
