Description:
Live Trad, Late Bar with Music
Review:
The Oliver St.John Gogarty is situated on the corner of Fleet Street and Anglesea Street in the centre of Temple Bar. It offers a good lively atmosphere with music filling the air - both Irish and the latest sounds. A live 'Irish' band plays upstairs at the weekend. The service is grand but the pint is very expensive. The pub can fill up quickly but this adds to the sing-song and craic. Upstairs, there is a nightly Live Trad session which is a great spot to hear all your favourite Trad tunes. The Oliver St.John Gogarty's is a late bar at the weekend and you usually get ordered out about 2.

- First time ever in Dublin was in March 2007 as a 40th birthday suprise frm my girlfiend Suzanne. The evening/ night/ morning spent in Olivers was fantastic, and will stay with us forever! My girlfriends requests were sung by the band more than once, and Ive never felt moved loved, oh, and the band were pretty friendly too! See you next year. Paul and Suzanne

- Wandered into this pub just before midnight on Friday 7th July 06 having landed an hour earlier at Dublin Airport - Got back to our hotel around 4:00am. Wow, what a night! Listened to a Great mix of music, met some lovely people (especially Paula from Dublin and her friend Ruth), very fast service and good beer. Reasonable prices. Spent a few hours on the Sunday eating good food, drinking Guinness and listening to live music before our flight home - Superb. Highly recommended.

- Tourist or no tourist, had my very 1st pint of Guinness here and loved it. We had a blast. It has the feel of true Dublin. We travelled all over Ireland and this pub ranked up there with the best.

- Great bar. Always busy so is one of the better bars to visit if you visit Dublin during the week but can get too busy for comfort at weekends! Still, I would have to highly recommend this bar if you want a taste of the unique Dublin nightlife.

- If you want a lively pub this is it. it costs for a pint but this place is always packed so get there early.

- Like all the pubs in Temple Bar, prices are a bit on the high side in Gogartys but it's still worth a visit. Always full when I visited. Worth ordering a traditional Irish meal, good value for money.

- Was there in April with my daughter. Great night staff fast and friendly . Will make sure to go there again when I return with friends.

- My first visit to Dublin, September 1999, the eve of the All Ireland Finals, me in my Celtics' strip, on-stage at Oliver St John Gogartys, leading a mad crowd of hundreds in "Fields of Athenry," voices raised in perfect harmony (and freebirds flying)... it has never been, before or after, any better than this! What a bar, what a crowd, what a night! Up The Celtic!!

- Good Temple Bar pub. Nearly always busy and getting a pint can be a bit arduous but well worth waiting your turn as they do a good pint. Has door through to the Left Bank.

- I have just recently came back from studying abroad in Dublin, and I believe Gogarty's was the funnest pub we went to. My friends and I met so many people from around the world there, it was so great. In fact, we loved it so much, we visited Gogarty's more than any other pub for the entire month we were there. The music was great, and the people were more than friendly, even the bouncers. Everyone should definitely check this pub out.

- I just returned from ireland and completely recommend Gogartys. Out of all of the pubs that me and my friends studying abroad checked out that one was the one we always returned to. Gogarty's is always full so you always meet people, it has really fun music that everybody enjoys and the cider is the best! When me and my friends would go to other pubs none of them compared to Gogarty's. Even though the place looks packed don't be afraid to go in, that's when we would have the most fun. Oliver St. John Gogartys is #1 in my book of pubs so everybody should check it out.

- For my 21st Birthday last year, I was taken to Dublin by my friends. We had booked to stay at the hostel, however we found little excuse to explore the rest of Dublin as Gogartys had the best Craic, Music and men Dublin had to offer! We will be back soon!

- I have just returned from Dublin-my second visit, and i must say i enjoyed Gogarty's even more than last time. Myself and my friend couldn't drag ourselves away-four nights of drinking, dancing and the best craic ever. The best musicians and friendist bouncers and barmen in Dublin. Be sure to enjoy the craic upstairs and down. And don't go away without trying the boiled bacon and cabbage! Counting the day until I go back!

- Even though it's small, the intimate setting makes for a good time and friendly liasions. It's feels like it's in the middle of a manwich. It's not a place to go if your looking for a large number of females. All in all it's a good time with good people..drink up and be merry!!

- This has got to be the best pub I went in whilst staying in Dublin, with friendly people, a great band and generally a great atmosphere, I absolutely loved it. I have just booked to return to Dublin in December 03 and will be heading straight for Gogarty's.

- I traveled to Ireland recently and traveled to many different places while in Ireland. One of my best memories and times spent with my friends and Irishmen was at Gogarty's. Singing, drinking, cheering, and simply enjoying a great environment that was welcoming was what it was all about. I definitely recommend Oliver St. John Gogarty's. It is one place you will never forget!

- Brilliant atmosphere, friendly staff who remember exactly what you're drinking, despite the place being packed at all times, great food, (mussels are a must), wonderful traditional music played by e few different members of a huge 'band' at weekends. We visited several other places the first day of our trip but once we found this place, we never moved - literally - as they do table service too!

- If you are a tourist and/or you want to go to a bar filled with other tourists. This is the place for you. It is an "irish" pub of the first order. Having said that, there is generally a good athmosphere here, but if you want to go to a fun bar, or an authentic Dublin bar, there are many many better options than here.

- At the heart of Temple Bar, it represents everything that Dublin pubs were not meant to be. The Guiness is bad, expensive and would be critised by regular Guinness drinkers. It is full of tourists and the crack can be good but drink bottled beer and keep some time to get to a real Dublin pub.

- Stranded in dublin for three days no flight home; stumbled across Gogartys, a life saver, thank god for company expenses, recommend the giant beef sandwiches and friendliness of staff, I'll be back.

- Gogarty's....what else can I say but that it is a wonderful place to spend an evening. Listen to the music, have a pint (or two!), talk with the locals and the tourists from all over the world. First Rate!
Submitted by Steve Niederloh, Champlin, Minnesota

- Nearly always packed with tourists from one end of the week to the other. So it definitely has an atmosphere. Touts itself as an authentic Irish pub and I'm sure it is. But it is not a pub I would recommend as being a decent Irish pub. There are many other better examples.

- It's been about 5 years since I've been to Dublin, but my memories of Gogarty's are still like new! Definitely the best pub in Temple Bar - the friendliest people, the greatest atmosphere, and the most amazing staff! I'll be back as soon as I can!

- I first went to Dublin at Christmas. All the pubs were great, but Oliver St. John Gogarty's was the one I loved the best! With a really great atmosphere, it's well worth the visit. It will be my first stop when I go back to Dublin!!
