Review: O'Donoghues on Merrion Row is a small pub at the front but has a large back area that deceivingly looks like a back alley. It plays host to a trad session at the weekends and this generates a lively atmosphere and a sing-song. It is open the regular pub hours throughout the week. The pint is reasonable as are the prices. The bar is small so it can be difficult to get served if it is packed and bringing them back to your seat can involve plenty of ducking and diving to ensure no spillage. The staff are friendly and efficient. Get in early, get a seat and enjoy a traditional trad session in lively surroundings. Public Reviews:
- What a place! From the bar to the traditional music to the courtyard out back - superb! Whilst we were there we even had free comedy when one of the local lads fell asleep locked in the loo for 2 hours. Unmissable.
- Great Pub with good prices, friendly staff and an outside Beer Garden for smokers. The Beer Garden is covered, heated and comfortable.
- I wish they had places like this in NY. My favorite place to drink anywhere. At night, a session is usually going on in the front. The spirits that inhabit this wonderful old pub keep me coming back. Great staff, wonderful pint!
- Now this is an old Irish pub. Small and narrow, O'Donoghue's is famous the world over. Popular with both tourists and locals, this could be called a typical Irish pub. A spit-on-the-floor type place. This is the pub where the Dubliners folk group first started many years ago. And you'll still get the odd musical session going on. They've recently added a back bar which is nice and pleasant and totally different from the main bar. Nearly always busy. If it's not tourists, it's the office crowd. Fills up very quickly and don't expect to be sitting down. A bit of music from a session in the corner should be available. A unique example of an old Irish pub. A Dublin institution. Go there and enjoy it.
