Mother Red Caps is a part of the Mother Red Caps Market and
situated on Chirstchurch Back Lane which connects Thomas Street
with Patrick Street. The pub is real old-fashioned and no decor
has been updated since the old days. The interior is wooden and it
is a great place to relax and have a couple of pints in any time
of the day. Music plays in the background and most weeks there
is some kind of live music performance. The staff are really friendly
and the pint is not that expensive. This is a great pub with old
fashioned Dublin values.
With all that said we are disappointed to announce that it is currently
up for sale and we feel it would be a great shame if this historic
pub and market place was to disappear from Dublin so we would urge
the new owners to leave it as it is.
Mother Redcaps is what all pubs should be like.
It is nice and quiet during the day, lively & atmospheric in the evening, & great pints all the time.
My favourite days to go there are Tuesday evening, and Sunday afternoon. They have an intimate live session where all the locals gather & sing songs. Everyone in the band is even local!
But be warned! keep the volume of your chat to a respectful level!
This pub gets my thumbs up 110%
BAD NEWS PEOPLE!
Mother Redcaps is due to close it's doors for the final time after 245 years on 20th March 2005, as it is being demolished to make way for Apartments. How sad & insensitive - yet another part of our culture being eroded & taken from the normal folk in favour of the Fat Cats.
Those who object to the disgraceful, profit driven need to demolish Mother Redcaps and attached buildings can sign a petition at petitiononline.com. Here's the actual address: http://www.petitiononline.com/REDCAPS/petition.html
Mother Redcaps is one of the best music venues in Dublin in that it houses musicians of the serious type, Blues, Jazz, Traditional, Folk, Roots and Instrumental. Talented stuff my friends.
