Review:
It was a rainy, damp and cold December day and as I was walking down South William Street in the heart of Dublin 2, I realised that I had not visited Grogans since I was eighteen and seen as it was one of (if not the) only pubs in the city centre without an offical review, why not pop in and do it now. First off I have to say, I don't think the pub has changed a bit since I was last in it and yes that's a good thing. The pub itself did seem a bit unkempt but it had the atmosphere of a real pub. The clientele were surprisingly young and trendy and even more remarkable was the fact that everyone appeared to be drinking Guinness, so I just had to have one. The pint was extremely tasty and at the keen price of € 3.70 was very welcome. The service was also exellent, nobody was waiting long to be served by the staff and would be called from their seats when the Guinness was poured. I also noted that the toasted sandwiches looked tasty. There was a wooden partition in the room, for the bar I presume, I didn't have a look inside. All said, I can imagine dropping in again perhaps with a couple of mates, perhaps not, it doesn't really matter, I get the feeling this pub can be whatever you want it to be and is all the better for it.

Public Reviews:

- One of the best kept secrets in Dublin. just off the hustle and bustle of grafton street but miles away in terms of ambience. Great Guiness and toasted sandwiches. What more could you ask for form a pub. No televison blaring in this pub either so great place to sit back and chill out.

- This is a one room pub but for some reason there's a partition with a door for no real reason. Has a nice modern stain glass window which is back lit. Good place to go for a bit of craic. Apparently twinned with the Oxford Bar in Edinburgh but I think that's just one weekend every two years.

- Not as political as The Long Hall or as picture-postacrd as The Stag's Head. Not as rough as J.J.'s - Best pub in the world.

- A relaxed old style dublin pub, with slatted wood of subdued 1970s style. Clients are a mixed crowd of shoppers, students and artists. Art for sale is displayed on the walls. Prices are reasonable and staff courteous. And the Guinness in the afternoons is glorious. Is medium sized so fills up quickly.

- For smokers, Grogan's has a very narrow shelter, but on the other hand, for when it's not raining, they allow you to take your drinks outside, so you can drink & smoke at the same time, which is really what is the most important). Submitted by Caroline, Dublin
