Review:
De Old Abbey Tavern on Abbey Street in Howth is a great spot for a couple of drinks anytime of the week. The place oozes relaxation and on the cold spring Saturday afternooon I ventured in, they had a real fire lighting which added to the cosy atmosphere. Taking a seat at the bar, I was disappointed to hear that food had stopped serving at 3.00 but I ordered a pint regardless.
The resulting Guinness was quite simply one of the best I have ever tasted and was just above averagely priced. The staff were friendly and service was swift. It also offers Live Trad Music.
Whether your with friends chatting away or are just looking for a peaceful drink, this pub will suit your needs.

- Very attentive staff, but when I visited (sunday, 15th july 2006) myself & my girlfriend agreed that the food was terrible. We both got raw chips. The drink was good though. Full of tourists which is a good thing

-My daughter and I stumbled across this charming establishment quite by accident last year (April 2002). Of course I knew it as soon as I stepped inside! We too were pleasantly greeted by a warm peat fire and quiet, unhurried atmosphere on a bleak Spring day.
We only had time for a couple of excellent Guinnesses, but will be back for more this November for sure. Save me/us a seat!

- As promised, my daughter and I re-visited this charming establishment in November 2003. We were not disappointed in the entertainment, atmosphere or hospitality. Sadly, I have now no reason to return to Dublin in the foreseeable future, but when I do, I'll be there again for sure. (This must be the best known pub to any in North America due mostly to The Abbey Tavern Singers - thanks a bunch, and long may you live!)
