Bowes Lounge is a pub of old school charm. Hidden away on Fleet Street, and seemingly always
obstructed by buses, if you manage to find this pub, you will not regret it. Although it
looks small from the exterior the bar area is actually quite long and surprisingly spacious.
The service is excellent and the pints delivered were ideal. The price of the pints was
in accordance with pubs in the city centre, perhaps cheaper than one or two. This is the
sort of pub to go to if you want to have a chat with friends or if you just fancy a pint and a read of a newspaper.
This pub is located on Fleet street just a few short ft from Temple Bar. The Irish Times newspaper used to be printed in the building across the road, there is still some editorial staff and office staff located there. But in it's heyday this was a pub where you were sure to see numerous hacks at the bar at any time of day or night, sometimes writting stories from the bar.
It is still a great pub and the World Cocktail Champion, James worked there until recently. Well worth a visit.
As a born and bred dubliner on the wrong side of 30, I cannot believe it has taken me this long to find this charming pub. The atmosphere is one of total ease, the staff are friendly and the music is unobtrusive. Great place to meet friends for a chat.
Having visited this pub on a few occasions, I found the bar staff very friendly, and the locals too, though small in size a very warm welcome to us - visitors from Scotland.
Bowes is a small cosy type of pub which boasts a handy location in the heart of the city centre. It tends to attract a varied and wide crowd from students, tourists, financial types and locals. The Barstaff are efficient and the decor inviting. Well worth missing a bus for!!
Nicely hidden, not too crowded with a great pint of guinness. It's actually possible to watch and hear the news on the telly. And the barmen are extremely courteous.
