Ward 8 was first served up in Boston's downtown Locke-Ober Café by
Tom Hussion (renowned mixologist) in November 1898. Rumour has it that Martin Lomasney (the owner of the cafe) was running for representative in the Massachusetts General Court from Ward Eight. On the night before the election, Tom invented the Ward 8 for Martin so
to offer him congratulations on his certain victory in the upcoming voting.
Somewhat ironically during the prohibition, Martin Lomansey supported it and closed
his bar, thus the Ward 8 was lost for a while but after prohibition ended it came
back with a bang and is now recognised as a fine cocktail.
It is good on a cold night as the whiskey in it will warm you up while the grenadine
adds a nice flavour.
If your bar doesn't serve it, here's the ingredients
below, tell them, if you're nice they may make it
for you or you can make it yourself at home.
3 Parts Whiskey
A Teaspoon of Grendaine
One Part Orange Juice
One Part Lemon Juice
